About me

I want to understand what happens one layer lower.

I’m Jonas, a Belgian engineer based in Vienna, working where backend software, infrastructure and operations meet.

My story

Built from systems outward.

A path through infrastructure, automation and software engineering—connected by a need to understand the complete system.

I started with networks and systems, where every problem teaches you to look beyond the visible symptom.

Professional infrastructure work gave me a practical understanding of identity, endpoints, servers, networks and the people who depend on them. Automation became the natural next step: turning repeated operational work into clear, reliable processes.

Software engineering widened that perspective. Through Cappio, SlopeWolf and independent projects, I work across application architecture, APIs, data, delivery and production operation. I am most useful where those layers need to work together.

Engineering principles

How I think about the work.

A few principles that guide how I investigate, build and operate systems.

01

Understand before abstracting

Good abstractions come from understanding the underlying behaviour, constraints and failure modes.

02

Build for operation

Delivery, observability, maintenance and recovery are part of the system—not work added after development.

03

Own the connections

The most important problems often live between application, identity, infrastructure and human workflows.
